Head of Non-Financial Risk Internal Audit
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Head of Non-Financial Risk Internal Audit to lead a critical audit function within our Internal Audit organization. The role is responsible for providing independent assurance over the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and internal controls related to the Bank's non-financial risk environment.
The function covers the audit of operational and conduct-related risks, including compliance, anti-money laundering (AML), sanctions, fraud risk management, reputational risk, and other non-financial risk areas, as well as audit coverage of key corporate functions such as Human Resources, Legal, Procurement, Accounting, Planning & Controlling, Communications, and other support functions.
The role has group-level responsibility, including the development and coordination of audit approaches, methodologies, and assurance activities across subsidiaries and international operations. The position does not include responsibility for IT audit.
Key Responsibilities:
Audit Leadership and Strategy
• Develop and execute the risk-based audit strategy and annual audit plan for activities related to non-financial risk.
• Ensure adequate audit coverage of emerging, regulatory, conduct, and operational risks across the Group.
• Provide independent assurance to senior management, the Audit Committee, and the Board regarding the effectiveness of internal controls, governance, and risk management practices.
• Lead/oversee complex and high-impact audits across non-financial risk activities and supporting functions.
• Ensure audits are conducted in accordance with professional internal auditing standards and internal methodologies.
• Review and challenge audit findings, root-cause analyses, and remediation plans to ensure meaningful and sustainable improvements.
• Identify emerging risks, control deficiencies, and regulatory concerns, and ensure timely escalation of significant issues.
• Act as a trusted advisor to senior management and the Board Audit Committee on matters related to non-financial risk governance and control frameworks.
Group-Level Responsibilities
• Establish and maintain a consistent audit approach for non-financial risk audits across the Group.
• Coordinate audit activities across subsidiaries and international entities.
• Assess group-wide risk themes and identify emerging risks requiring attention.
• Provide consolidated reporting and insights on non-financial risk control effectiveness to senior management, executive committees, and Board-level stakeholders.
• Review and challenge local audit findings to ensure consistency and quality.
• Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders throughout the Group.
• Share best practices and contribute to the continuous enhancement of the Group Internal Audit framework.
Stakeholder Management
• Build strong relationships with senior executives, business leaders, control functions, regulators, and external auditors.
• Engage constructively with Compliance, Risk Management, Legal, HR, and Finance leadership while maintaining Internal Audit's independence and objectivity.
• Represent Internal Audit in regulatory inspections and external reviews relating to non-financial risk areas.
• Present audit findings and recommendations to senior management committees and Board-level forums.
• Monitor remediation activities and challenge management where necessary to ensure sustainable issue resolution.
People Leadership
• Lead, develop, and inspire a team of internal auditors specialized in non-financial risk and supporting function audits.
• Foster a high-performance culture focused on excellence, integrity, and continuous learning.
• Support talent development, succession planning, and technical capability building.
• Promote innovation and the effective use of data analytics and technology-enabled auditing.
Methodology and Quality Assurance
• Contribute to the development of audit methodologies, risk assessment frameworks, data analytics, and thematic reviews.
• Ensure audit quality, consistency, and adherence to professional standards and regulatory expectations.
• Drive continuous improvement in audit methodologies, audit analytics, and quality assurance practices.
Qualifications and Experience:
Required
• University degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field.
• Minimum 10-15 years of experience in internal audit, risk management, compliance, regulatory supervision, or related control functions within the financial services sector.
• Proven leadership experience managing senior audit professionals and complex audit portfolios.
• Strong knowledge of:
o Banking regulations and supervisory expectations
o Operational risk management frameworks
o Compliance, AML, sanctions, and conduct risk requirements
o Corporate governance and internal control systems
o Financial and management control processes
• Strong leadership capabilities and ability to influence at executive and Board level.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
Preferred
• Professional certification such as CIA, ACCA, CPA, CISA, CAMS, CRCM, or equivalent.
• Experience operating in an international and/or group environment.
• Experience interacting with regulators, audit committees, and executive management.
